True Story on how Valentines' Day Saved a Life

6 years back a loving husband Mr. Rajeev Pradhan (name changed) decided to gift something different to his wife Neha (name changed) on Valentine’s Day. They have been traditionally giving gifts on this day every year and soon they ran out of new ideas. So Rajeev came up with the idea – why not gift a health check up package? As they just crossed 40 years and never have screened for their health status, they decided it was a brilliant idea to undergo Routine Health screening.  Rajeev shared the idea with his wife Neha, and she instantly agreed.

On 14th Feb 2010, both Rajeev and Neha underwent Executive Health Checkup package at Advanced polyclinic. During the check up, Neha was found to be healthy, but Rajeev’s report revealed a rare disease known as “Aortic Aneurysm” at the abdominal part of the Aorta (the major and largest blood vessel of the body). Aortic Aneurysm is enlargement (dilatation) of the aorta more than 1.5 times the normal size and may rupture any time. If ruptured, causes massive internal bleeding and rapid death.

Rajeev was then referred to a vascular surgeon, and surgery was advised.  He was thus planning for surgery and was deciding where might be the best place and hospital.

Then while he was at work, all of a sudden his Aneurysm Ruptured (burst).

Massive internal bleeding started. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, and only because his aneurysm was  already diagnosed, doctors could quickly diagnosed the ruptured aneurysm and was immediately operated and his life was saved.

Even in developed counties like America and Europe only 10-15% of people survive a ruptured aortic aneurysm. 85-90% die. In developing Countries like Nepal , almost 100% will die from Ruptured Aortic Aneurysm. But Rajeev was lucky. Just because thinking different and gifting different in Valentine’s Day, his life was saved.

Then just recently, 6 years after his surgery, Rajeev and Neha again came for a Health package (executive health check up). Rajeev is doing just fine, alive and kicking.  We at Advanced polyclinic were so happy how a simple gift on a Valentine’s Day saved a Life! What better a gift can be than this?
