In Nepal and other parts of the World, Flu is active during change of seasons – October/November and March/April. During seasonal change from Winter to Summer our body and immune system is busy getting adapted to this change of season, and thus we become susceptible for common cold and Flu.

Whereas Common cold is a Rhinovirus and causes just running nose and mild soar throat and mild fever and is self-limiting disease and does not cause serious complications or death, but Flu is an Influenza virus, with similar symptoms, but more severe, with high grade fever, body aches, headaches, lethargy and can lead to severe complications, hospitalization and even death.

Every year Flu viruses change their genetic pattern and that is why there is no prolonged natural immunity against Flu in our body. And Flu vaccines are protective for only one year. Every year new Vaccines are developed for the latest Flu virus stains.

Why get Vaccines? Because Flu is a serious disease that can cause life threatening complication and even death. Flu Vaccines even protect us from Swine Flu. As Flu is a vaccine preventable disease everyone is recommended to have Flu vaccine every year. This can prevent Flu, spreading of Flu and can save lives.
